This article is about Tips for Image Optimization SEO.

Tips for Image Optimization SEO

SEO is a methodology or a process to increase the number of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine.

Type of SEO:

1. Off Page SEO
2. On Page SEO

Off Page SEO is the SEO on outside of your own website or blog, like backlinks from other websites or blogs.

On Page SEO is the SEO on your actual page inside the website or blog. On page SEO is the pillar of your SEO.

Image optimization is the most important factor of On Page SEO. Following are some important points to keep in mind while doing Image Optimization:

Alt attribute:

Alt stands for alternate.

Alt attribute is one of the most important factors of Image optimization. Generally, when we see any image then we instantly recognize what’s going on the picture. But the search engines can’t instantly recognize the images.

Most of the search engines read the text they can’t read the images or videos.

Sometimes if image take a longer time to be displayed or image can’t be shown, then the text in ALT attribute is displayed in place of the image. The ALT attribute tells the search engines that the image is displayed here for the XYZ topic.

In short, we can say that the ALT attribute is the text that the search engine uses to understand the images.

So the tip is, add search engine friendly information in few words in ALT attribute like

alt = ”Add your text”

Example: < img src=”software-services.jpg” alt=”Software development company” />

Image Size:

We can’t underestimate image size factor especially when we are doing image optimization.

We all know that the Image load time matters for SEO. So you should use image file size as smaller as possible but not on image quality scarification.

One more thing to keep in mind is that sometimes we use large images and use height and width tags to resize the image to make images smaller. That is not a good practice. In this case, the browser loads the large image first, then resize it, so the image load time will be increased. Hence, the web page would take more time to load and the user would escape faster.

So it’s most important to keep images low in bytes and as smaller as possible.

File Name:

Using a descriptive file name rather than irrelevant name is a good practice for image optimization.

Avoid using irrelevant or default file name like “AS0001.jpg” or “123.jpg” because such irrelevant name does not give information about the image. So, always give a descriptive file name with keyword separated by hyphen (“-“ ) before uploading the image.

Example: “ Infomaticalabs-an-software-outsourcing-company.jpg “

If you are using any SEO friendly plug-in for WordPress, it’s very useful to use a descriptive file name with keywords as the plug-in might reuse the image name into ALT attribute.

Title Tag and Image linking:

Images are Eye catching, so images are perfect for linking. Image linking is also a more effective factor for SEO. Whenever you use images in a guest post, image linking will help you to get a link back to your site.

How can we forget the ‘title’ attribute when we link our images? Title attribute shows a tool tip with information when we hover the cursor over the image. Same like file name, add image description with keywords and your title tag will start helping you in SEO.

Example: < img src=”software-development.jpg” title=”Offshore Development Center” alt=”Software Stratup In India” />
